A long time coming…
My love for small spaces started when I was in 5th grade. I had saved up enough money to buy my own boat and I wanted to put a tent over it to keep out the rain and allow for camping expeditions. I started my research online and came across a small structure that a fellow creative type had built on a barge. I immediately fell down the online rabbit hole of Pinterest boards devoted to tiny homes and eventually decided to turn my tree house into my own little home…
the beginning:
as you can Most likely tell from my brown and pink gap hoodie this picture was taken in 2015. My two pet ducks Cheese and Quackers are featured as well (RIP cheese 2014-2017). in the picture I am seen carrying a piece of framing for my first tiny house that I built on my existing tree house platform. Sadly, after securing the roof on this house, a large storm blew the entire structure off the platform and into the driveway.
the design process
After my first tiny home was destroyed, I did not stop dreaming of building a second one. I placed bids on eBay for school buses to convert into a tiny home, but without success. I doodled layouts on math worksheets, and filled notebooks with ideas hoping that one day I would build the structure of my dreams. years passed since the first build, and finally I struck a deal with my dad. He would pay for the lumber to build the home, and I would cover windows, doors, insulation, furniture, and roofing. Pictured here is a few of my designs.
modeling
After collecting all of my ideas from over the years I brought them together to make one final design. I practically ran to the closest craft store to buy as much balsa wood and cardboard as I could afford. I Built my first scale model of what the tiny home would look like.
